4 years ago I was in Target during back to school shopping watching all the other parents with their young kids, I was thinking wow that is going to be one of the saddest days of my life when my daughter goes off to kindergarten. Well today was that day and I must say, I shed no tears. Oh I was close when she was grabbing my leg at drop off saying please don’t leave completely sobbing (we never had separation issues at preschool, summer camps or anything?). I was so nervous standing by the school door waiting for pick up (we are ‘walkers’) the teacher sent her out and I caught her eyes and gave her a questioning thumbs up. She gave me one back. Whew!
Then when we got home it was her telling me how much fun she had, showing me the drawing she made in art class, saying she made lots of friends, telling me all about the pickle book they read in class and how funny it was and how everyone was laughing, wondering what she would be doing the next day….seeing her so happy and excited about school definitely made me misty eyed.
Here is our quick photo-shoot that we did yesterday to reflect the big day and life changes that going off to kindergarten brings. If found this beautiful early 1900s antique school desk & chair on craigslist we used our funky frame & chalkboard from The Organic Bloom and a knot dress from one of our favorite kids clothing places Matilda Jane.
Here is our first day of school outfit & photos:
